Cape Sleep - Vessel 11

Cape Sleep

Cape Sleep is the new band of Dutch artist Kim Janssen, who previously released three albums under his own name. The new album Video Days, which will be released in February 2024, will be the debut for the new appearance: Cape Sleep.

Under the new name, Janssen fulfills his wish to play in a band. His songs are no longer just autobiographical but are fairytale stories full of characters who wander from place to place. It is as if you, as a listener, enter a theater.

The album Video Days is full of nostalgia; it’s a love letter to pop culture of the past with references ranging from old Westerns and ’90s Disney films to REO Speedwagon songs and Lerner and Loewe musicals. On the album you travel through time, from synth pop from the ’80s, via soft rock with strings from the ’70s, to contemporary pop.

The new album is Janssen’s most focused and moving work to date. At the same time, elements of his older work return, such as the use of a wide range of instruments and the invitation of guest musicians. This time the album contains contributions from Remy van Kesteren, members of Klangstof and Moss, among others. Orchestral arrangements were written by Paul Jacob Cartwright (Father John Misty) and performed by members of Stargaze and the Metropole Orchestra.

You can experience how the warm and rich pop songs of Cape Sleep turn out live on Thursday, March 14 in V11.
