Gen and the Degenerates

The primary goal of Gen and the Degenerates is to inject a hefty dose of fun into a world often plagued by gloom, darkness, and tragedy. This doesn’t mean they ignore the darker sides of life; they simply aim to restore balance with plenty of joy. Musically, the five-member band oscillates between alternative rock, post-punk, and garage, creating a synergy between a near-frantic energy and well-crafted harmonies. Their musical mentality is influenced by the punk and post-punk scenes of New York—think Patti Smith, LCD Soundsystem, and Sonic Youth. They can be both quirky and artistic while also crafting catchy pop songs.

These ‘degenerates’ released their debut album ‘ANTI-FUN PROPAGANDA’ in late February 2024. The album sees them skillfully and dynamically switch between various genres and styles, finding the balance between being a party band and having a socio-political agenda. The album is sharp and bold, filled with witty observations about the chaos of life as a twenty-something in a system stacked against you. The tracks explore the absurdity of online arguments, the pursuit of pretentious trends, the longing for a simple, stable family life, and the refusal to conform to a social and political system that tries to restrict plain and simple fun.
